Reblogging Posts On Tumblr

Introduction

Tumblr is a great place to browse interesting posts from different users (i.e. text, photo, videos, etc.). But what if you see a post that is not yours but you really want to share it with your followers and friends? That kind of action is what we call reblogging. When you reblog something from another user to your dashboard, your followers will see it on your blog. In this tutorial, we will show you how to easily reblog a post, plus other simple tips on reblogging.

Logging in to Tumblr

If you haven't logged in yet, sign in and it will take you to your dashboard to see people's posts. If you don't have an account yet, sign up first on the home page.

Search for a post

On your Dashboard, search for a post that you would really like to reblog to your followers. Click on the reblog icon (the two alternating arrows icon) and it will take you to a pop-up window for reblogging a post.

Customize your reblogged post

In the window, you can add additional commentary, such as "LOL I agree to this!" or "This post is very beautiful that I want to reblog it!", and you can also add optional tags below. If you have multiple blogs, click on your username on the top left to change which blog you want to post it to. You can also add formatting (i.e. bold, italic, strikethrough text) to your commentary. There is also this trend on Tumblr where they put commentary on the tags instead of using the text area.

The settings (gear) icon on the top right lets you set a customized URL, optional content source URL and when you want to post it. The drop-down button next to the Reblog Post button allows you to change the privacy of your post (i.e. Add to Queue, Private, Save as Draft, or Publish on…) if you want only a few people to view your post or still unsure about it.

Also, Tumblr has this new feature that lets you change the format of your reblog (i.e. if it's a photo with a caption, you can reblog it as a text, quote, or link instead) depending on the content you are reblogging. Simply click on the drop-down icon next to the gear (settings icon) on the top right and select what type of content you want to post it as.

Hit the Reblog Post button

After checking and customizing your post, go on ahead and click the Reblog Post button below. In a few moments, you'll see your reblogged post on your dashboard! If it doesn't yet, try refreshing the page.

Additional Reblogging Tips

When visiting another person's blog (with a personalized layout) and you want to reblog a certain post, just click on the date of the post or the number of notes (e.g. 100 notes) to take you to that specific post. On the top right, click the Reblog button next to the Like (heart) button, which will take you to your dashboard and the same pop-up window will appear as when reblogging normally. Follow the same steps above when customizing and finalizing your reblogged post. After that, you'll be redirected to the original post.

If you want to quickly reblog something without adding text captions or tags, just simply use this technique: hold the Alt key (Windows) or cmd (Mac OS) and click the Reblog icon. When the icon turns green, it means you have successfully reblogged the post to your blog!

Conclusion

Reblogging a post on Tumblr is a great way to express yourself or to share / promote stuff from your friends! However, too much reblogging can be a bit annoying sometimes, so it's still a good idea to post some original content from time to time or at least keep reblogging time intervals at minimum.
